Climate change is not a distant phenomenon, either in space or time. We are entering a climate-changed world. An age of new normals. What can we do about climate change?
Between doomerism and incrementalism is realism. Even if we lost decades ago the opportunity to “ease” our way into a climate-friendly world, there are advances in awareness and technology that offer possibilities for climate solutions in a changing world. There is no silver bullet, and there is a chance that a solution for one problem will make something else worse.
Our climate solutions mindset must begin with a clear understanding of our options, their consequences, and the urgency of acting to offset the worst scenario of “business as usual.”
There are two climate solution categories: adaptation and mitigation.
Each involves long-term planning, effort, and action at global, national, state, local, and individual levels. Sustainable climate solutions require collaboration between business, government, and communities. The global challenge of climate change is transformative. How that transformation plays out is in our hands.
