Claiming that the United States is doing a better job of constraining the growth of greenhouse gas emission than other countries, negotiators at the UN Climate Conference remain steadfast in their rejection of the Kyoto Protocol, of which the US and Australia are the only industrialized nations refusing to sign. Despite recent reports of the devastating impact climate change will have on the world economy, of which the United States is a part, the official stance of the US government is that the Kyoto Protocol would hinder US economic growth.
It seems as if we’re caught between a rock and a hard place.
