EPA WaterSense Fix-A-Leak Week Raises Awareness, Promotes Water Efficiency

Ample freshwater supplies are critical to American households, businesses, institutions and industry, as well as ecosystems, but they’re increasingly under stress. Fortunately, Americans can do a lot to improve the situation by taking a few simple, inexpensive steps. Aiming to raise awareness and boost water conservation and water efficiency, the EPA WaterSense partnership program is sponsoring and hosting events around the country as part of Fix-A-Leak week.

EPA Reports to Congress on National Safe Drinking Water Needs

Public water systems across the nation require some $384.2 billion over the next 20 years to assure the provision of safe drinking water, according to the EPA. The EPA’s “Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs and Assessment: Fifth Report to Congress” is its most comprehensive since 1997, when an amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act required the EPA to conduct national surveys every four years.
