The head of the Panama Canal Authority warned that drought conditions may limit the draft of ships able to make the 48-mile passage. Besides its role in Panama’s economy, the Panama Canal watershed supplies clean drinking water and hydroelectric power for the Panama City metro area.

Hosting the first “Advancing Sustainable Ports Summit” in Washington D.C., the EPA awarded six U.S. ports $4.2 mm in Diesel Emissions Reduction Act grants.
