Chronically Inundated US Coastal Communities Could Jump from 90-plus to Nearly 170 In Less Than 20 Years

Government authorities and residents in a fast rising number of US coastal communities across the nation will face some very difficult choices in coming years as a result of chronic inundation, including the possibility of having to abandon entire towns and perhaps even cities, according to a new study from the Union of Concerned Scientists.

International Day for Biological Diversity: A Day to Celebrate Wetlands, Marine and Coastal Biodiversity and Ecosystems

May 22 is the UN’s “International Day for Biological Diversity,” a day that various UN agencies are joining in celebrations and reaffirming their commitments to biodiversity conservation, protection and “wise use” efforts worldwide. Included is the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, the only global environmental treaty focused on addressing challenges related to one particular ecosystem.
