An excerpt of Representative Robert Inglis’ remarks, as reported by the Huffington Post:
There are people who make a lot of money on talk radio and talk TV saying a lot of things. They slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and they’re experts on climate change. They substitute their judgment for people who have Ph.D.s and work tirelessly [on climate change].
Not a bad speech except for near the end, where he talks about the science sometimes being wrong. He plays down the confidence we should have in science. The four humours of ancient medicine pre-dates enlightenment but many centuries and never really had much of a strong scientific case. It was science that ultimately disproved this old practice and brought a revolution in healthcare.
Yeah, it\’s really too bad he used the analogy he did – your point is excellent, science is what saved humanity from ancient medical practices.
In all, I hope some people to which the comments were intended were listening… Though I don\’t hold out a lot of hope for that.
I agree – as he spoke, I could imagine a number of the people he was talking sitting back in their chairs, with their arms crossed. And devaluing science doesn’t help, but merely reinforces the anti-science movement.
