Climate Action and the Clinton Global Initiative – Timberland Supports Agents of Change

Become an agent of changeWorking to focus on solutions and a vision for a sustainable future, the  Clinton Global Initiative (CGI),  Climate Week NYC, and a meeting of the United Nations to discuss Millennium Development Goals all converged last week on New York City.

At CGI, thought leaders, concerned citizens, policy experts, and government representatives from across the globe convened not only to discuss solutions, but to commit to steps in their implementation. Established in 2005 by former president Bill Clinton, CGI’s goal is to turn ideas into action and to help the world move toward a more integrated global community of shared benefits, responsibilities and values. Members devise practical solutions to global issues by developing specific measurable commitments.

As one small example, Timberland president and CEO Jeff Swartz joined M. Sanjayan, lead scientist at The Nature Conservancy and Matt Kistler, senior vice president at Walmart, joined forces at a breakout session last week to offer insights on the most inventive and effective market-based solutions for protecting the environment.

Timberland is heavily involved in environmental stewardship, a strong supporter of CGI, and actively encourages all levels of society to act as agents of change.

CGI is an inspiring, action-oriented meeting, and we want to share the excitement and real progress generated at this event with people across the country,” said Mike Harrison, Timberland’s Chief Brand Officer. “Timberland will continue to engage in educating people on key issues affecting our world and environment, and we hope to motivate consumers to turn their own ideas into action.”

New media environmental correspondent Olivia Zalesk was on hand at CGI to engage participants and explore some of the solutions discussed. Those discussions are briefly highlighted in the following two videos:
