GlobalWarmingisReal contributor Anders Hellum-Alexander wraps-up and comments on the climate and environmental news headlines for the past week:
- Wind power is growing in America, 20 percent of the energy mix in America could be wind power by 2030
- Are we all, to some degree, climate change deniers? Its hard to internalize the future effects of climate change. I have at least 40 years left on this planet, plenty of time to see some eco-collapses, but I try not to think about how bad it could get.
- While environmentalist pour their efforts into blocking construction of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, Canada is finding other ways to get tar sands oil into America.
- A really popular claim by global warming deniers is that the world has not warmed for the past 15 years. Writing in SeattlePI, James Temple explains, yet again, why the claim that “global warming has stopped” is incorrect. If you hear a politician making this tiresome claim they are either intentionally misleading people or they’re dumb.
- Electric utility companies are increasingly challenged by solar energy; profits are starting to drop and utilities are trying to make up for that by charging customers more. Efforts to implement special charges for customers with solar energy systems have failed so far, but utilities keep trying.
- Stolen oil in the dirty Nigerian oil industry is polluting the landscape. Domestic and International groups are selling the stolen oil on the global market and don’t take a single precaution to protect the environment.
- The Koch brothers never tire of lobbying the people’s representatives and spreading false information; they want to make sure that solutions like a much needed carbon tax never happen.
- What does a national energy grid fueled primarily by renewable energy look like? Get a sneak peak here.
- Solar technology is always developing, it works now, and it will work even better in the future.
