Ernesto Sirolli is the founder of the Sirolli Institute, a non-profit organization that advocates for a “civic economy” model of development. Through mentoring and nurturing local talent instead of a “top down” approach to economic aid and sustainable development, impoverished communities can rebuild their local economies, inspire local entrepreneurship and protect the environment. In this 18-minute TEDx talk, Sirolli talks with passion and humor on how his experiences led to a realization that the typical patriarchal approach to economic aid and development doesn’t work for creating a sustainable future.
