Musings of a Malcontent: If Al Gore Has Had Enough – You Know We’re in Trouble

Musings of a Malcontent - environmental irony every week“Musings of a Malcontent” is a weekly op-ed by GlobalWarmingisReal contributor Carlyle Coash

For those of you living underground near a lava flow, you may have missed Al Gore and his spectacular meltdown last week.

Wow.

Frankly I am amazed it took this long. The level of ridiculousness he relates to on a daily basis is staggering. He is the naysayer punching bag, along with Ralph Nadar and Jello Biafra.

Not really sure about Jello – just trying to name drop.

I am sure there is a whole section of the Death Star (yes – the Dark Side is alive and well) dedicated to the ongoing undermining of everything Al Gore has tried to do over the last 15 years. They have wanted to demonstrate the full operational capability of the station by lazering his home into ash but luckily they keep getting talked out of it.

W is such an old softy.

Mr. Gore, for those underground, spun out during a talk at the Aspen Institute on the 9th. Basically he is tired of all the bull…sorry…misinformation being peddled by a few paid-off scientists. Did I say paid off? I mean a hand full of well-compensated scientists whose sole job is to come up with counter attacks for anything involving global warming. Their approach is right out of the CIA handbook really.

Admit nothing. Deny everything. Make counter accusations.

(I have heard – Demand Proof – is part of it as well.)

As a nation, we are after all – easily misled. You know we are. We have Fox News to thank for that. Throw in enough voices yelling about the issue and we will eventually switch to American Idol.

Or Shark Week.

Frankly taking the time to understand what is going on is too much work. It requires forming an opinion. Sharks don’t have to do that. They just eat. No questions. If you throw some counter statements and fist pounding on the table to prove that all of the crazy weather of the last several years is because we bludgeon our planet with crap and apathy – then the sharks will win every time.

Throw in recession, down-trend or that the same dress was worn by two red carpet stars and you are luckily we have any environmental movement.

I am amazed at times by my own pessimism. Doing this article stirs up the jaded side of myself. I do have plenty of help being reminded that there is goodness in the world – like the guy who chased down a child abductor a few days ago. Yet, sadly in the same breath a vote from the “people are crap” side of the fence comes in.

I will give you an example. This past weekend the Outside Lands festival was held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. A focus of the event is about the environment and taking care of the natural world. They even had one of the performing stages run completely with solar panels. They also sponsored a cleanup of ocean beach. Very cool. I live right where they placed a major entrance to the event. Thousands of people streamed by my apartment for three days.

Awareness of the planet was definitely NOT on their minds – after all Gallagher was one of the performers.

(Sorry Gallagher. A mallet does not comedy make.)

Actually I know this more by the level of trash and debris left everywhere on our street. It was impressive. Beer cans were a feature. I literally saw one person finish drinking a bottle of juice, stop at a corner, and throw it onto the street.

I think he even said –“The Environment Rocks!” when he did it and may have strangled a baby seal. It was hard to tell with all the pot smoke wafting by the window.

The lady who collects cans on our street was happy, but she is happy most of the time.

Otherwise there seemed little take-away from the event – and this was a crowd open to the notion of global warming and the environment. So if they don’t get it – how does Al Gore have a chance against people who have no intension of getting it?

So he has my sympathy and support. Too bad his rant was recorded and sent all over the world in about three seconds. I am sure the Dark Side will find a way to hit him over the head with it. Frankly I think he needs to go a little Godfather on them and place a horse head in a few of their beds. The horse head makes a powerful statement after all and it looks like he needs all the powerful statements he can get.

Here is the link to his site if you want to help out. Go Al!
