Shoddy Reporting Doesn’t Help Anyone and Why We Shouldn’t Listen to TV Weather Forcasters in Regard to Climate Change

“I’ll Believe the Sun is Controlling Our Climate Until the Day I Day”
Dave Dahl – TV weatherman (Chief Meteorologist KSTP-TV)

That’s fine with us Dave. (But do you really think the sun is the only thing contributing to our climate?) How about focusing on the weather forecast for tomorrow? Leave the climate science to the climate scientists.

Wow, someone has the cranky pants on don’t they?

It isn’t the TV weather men and women expressing their opinion that get me the most cranky, it’s that a news organization would go to them in the first place as their first-call experts, as the video demonstrates. The report from Esme Murphy of WCCO TV in Minneapolis is introduced on the premise of discussing a “controversial weather topic”.

Wrong. climate is not weather and weather forecasters are not climate scientists – and reputable journalists should know the difference.

It isn’t my intention to slam weather people, they most likely have a more educated opinion than most, but, with all due respect to all those hard working meteorologists reporting the weather day in and day out, they aren’t the ones we should be listening to in order to base the best informed opinion of a very complex topic.

Neither am I.

So here are some people that are:

Real Climate
National Academies of Science – Climate Change
U.S Geological Survey
Climate Progress

There’s a few to get us started. There are many more, just look under “Global Warming Resources” in the left sidebar.
