There is plenty of sobering news regarding climate change. I see it every day.
The most discouraging aspect of it is the political divisiveness and polarization surrounding the issue. No problem is ever solved nor challenge met through such a stance.
I often have sharp criticism for the rhetoric and misrepresentation of the facts from the “denialist” camp, as well as for the leadership – or lack thereof – from our national government.
Nonetheless, I like to think of myself as a cautious optimist (though it may not seem like that at times). A challenge is but an opportunity to do better. What we face is an opportunity to transform the world and pave the way for a sustainable future.
Or not. The choice is ours, whether we like it or not.
We have the power to make our voice heard like no other time in history. Through the power of grassroots media and “social networking”, we can help influence events.
Let me put it another way – what do Al Sharpton, Pat Robertson, Nancy Pelosi, and Newt Gingrich all have in common? Not only with each other but with you too. Figuring that out for ourselves is how problems get solved.
On subsequent posts I’ll no doubt report more sobering news as the reality of climate change makes itself ever more apparent, or some politically motivated head of some government agency betrays the trust of his high position.
But right now I’m being an optimist. If these people in the videos below can sit on a couch together and claim solidarity and a call to action, then the least I can do is join them.
You can too by going to WeCanSovleIt.org and make your voice heard.
