Sleep Walking into a Warming World – Global Warming and the American “Skeptic”

sleep-walking-into-a-warming-worldRegular readers of this blog may notice my pattern of always putting quotes around the word “skeptic”. Skepticism requires thought, and in so many cases those that wish to deny global warming and/or our responsibility for it don’t really think all that much.

On his blog The Conscious Earth, Odiyya takes on the American mainstream media in it’s continued portrayal of global warming science as something in widespread dispute, or a plot by “lefties” to take over government, or, from a recent comment on another blog, a ploy by the car companies to force us to buy more expensive cars (?). Here at GlobalWarmingisReal.com, I’ve received comments with thoughtful insight such as “go to hell” or “don’t put away your winter clothes just yet”.

As much as I appreciate anyone reading this blog, even if you don’t share my point of view, I appreciate even more an honest and thoughtful debate.

Odiyya very rightly points out an uncomfortable truth for Americans – that our freedoms, founding principals, and even our ability to think for ourselves, is threatened in our current climate (an unintended pun) of division, distraction, and distortion. We are sleep walking into an uncertain future and it is time to wake up.
